The European Commission has launched a new competition recognising cities that are helping local retailers succeed through innovation, sustainability and digitalisation. Three awards will be presented in 2027 to cities of different sizes: Vanguard City, Vibrant City and Visionary City.
Open to cities from EU Member States and Single Market Programme countries, the initiative aims to showcase best practices, support knowledge exchange and highlight the importance of retail for local communities and economies.
Applications are open until 9 October 2026, with winners receiving European recognition, promotional support and networking opportunities.
