New entrepreneur:
Melanie Huber (Spain)
Age: 21
Company name: (Would-be entrepreneur)
Sector of activity: IT, office and communication equipment, services and supplies

I am happy to have had the opportunity to learn about search engine marketing from a true specialist. Especially as a young entrepreneur, it is very important to have good rankings in search engines for your services/products.

Host entrepreneur:
Sebastian Loock (Germany)
Age: 26
Company name: web-netz GmbH (5 years of experience)
Sector of activity: IT, office and communication equipment, services and supplies

Thanks to Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs, we have found a dynamic partner who supports us actively in our expansion activities. Spain could be an interesting market for us and we hope to get an easier access to the market with the support of Ms. Huber.

Period of exchange: 09/2009 until 03/2010
Duration of exchange: six months

Before starting up her own business in the tourism sector,Melanie sought after an opportunity which would allow her to receive professional guidance and gain valuable experience in IT technology, in particular regarding internet advertising. She wanted to develop a business that would involve e-booking. Thus, in 2009, Melanie left Spain to join Sebastian, owner of web-netz GmbH, for a total of six months to gain further insight into European SMEs working in the field of online marketing.

At the start of the exchange, Melanie was interested in online advertising, in particular vis-à-vis Google Ad words and Google Ad sense. Melanie wanted to understand these advertising tools as she needed them for the setting up of a viable business. In her own words, ‘there is no bigger enemy than ignorance’. Another important aspect covered during the exchange was the importance of keywords when searching online. In Melanie’s case, there were more than 4 million web pages registered when entering the keyword “Tenerife” in Google search engine. Sebastian helped Melanie narrow her keywords to a selected few. Melanie also learnt how to create a user-friendly online platform, sell products and services online and contact new clients.

In addition to her daily activities, Melanie had the opportunity to spend time in the accounting department in order to learn about administrative and organisational duties and responsibilities. According to Melanie, ‘Mr. Loock has shown me, during my 6 months stay, important aspects to bear in mind when setting up a business.’
