Architecture

Simone Piccolo is a young architect born and raised in southern Italy near Naples, a city where he is studying until July 2019. The sometimes rural dimension of his city has always connected him to nature. Some of his fondest childhood memories are linked to country life and days spent outdoors. Another aspect that has always been part of him is his passion for music and drums, which he has cultivated since his youth. During his studies, he discovered the world of self-construction and computer-aided design. The possibility of creating flexible, performance-oriented and geometrically complex designs immediately fascinated him, so he decided to cultivate this interest through independent studies and to document himself on the subject. When he met Giacomo Garziano, his host entrepreneur , he felt that all his experiences, passions and attitudes could be crystallised through their Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs exchange.

During the exchange, Simone and Giacomo focused on design activities in both architecture and interior design, with particular attention to three-dimensional modelling through the use of computer-aided design software. Simone interacted with suppliers and clients through the preparation of project presentation documents and live meetings and participated in the elaboration of the different phases of the project: from the initial sketch and concept phase to the graphic rendering of two-dimensional and three-dimensional drawings production of models parametric.

According to Simone, thanks to the collaboration with Giacomo, he acquired many technical skills that will be useful in his future activity, such as design skills in the Visual Programming Language environment and the use of software for three-dimensional modelling, as well as control machines (3D printers and laser cutting). Above all, he learned how to manage a studio and organise the architectural project in its different phases and at different scales. He learned to manage project documents necessary for the correct development of the architectural workflow, and how to acquire techniques for coordinating the different phases of work with clients and suppliers. He acquired methods and practises to work with from both a professional and business perspective. These will be great tools once he will open his own prototyping laboratory.
