When architecture helps build communities

Sharing the same passion for architecture, Andreas Lang (United Kingdom) and Daniella Ricci (Sweden) are both active in engaging communities to (re-)design the public spaces.

Host entrepreneur Andreas has been part of projects in which un-used spaces in the city are re-designed by citizens to benefit the local community and that is precisely what new entrepreneur Daniella plans to do with her new start-up.

During her exchange, Daniella has mostly been involved in developing community participation and engagement projects in East London. Building on Andreas’ participation methodology, she created collaborative maps and planning ideas for a neighbourhood, engaging with local ambassadors and a local school.

In addition, Andreas and Daniella prepared funding proposals for a training method based on community participation and peer learning. Equipped with digital knowledge, Daniella helped Andreas look at blockchain models of endorsement and certification of the training model. She also started testing this model as a pilot.

Daniella also supported Andreas in pitching an art project for the Olympic park in London about Women and Work which they won. Daniella will continue to be involved in this project from Sweden.

The main benefit of the collaboration for Andreas was Daniella’s idea of blockchain certification of Roam agency’s training methodology, on which Andreas and Daniella will continue to collaborate. They are currently also working on a joint project in Gothenburg (Sweden).
