Recent testimonies of successful business networking - Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme

New entrepreneur:
Renato Reggiani (Italy)
Age: 46
Company name: Biopic - (Start-up)
Sector of activity: Organic/Bio/Eco products & services

This four-months stay abroad in the Netherlands helped develop my business idea further notably in the area of customers services. I also had the opportunity to meet key professionals in the sector such as the Chamber of Commerce of Rotterdam which now supports my project.

Host entrepreneur:
René Gouw (Netherlands)
Age: 52
Company name: Kolibri Logistiek - (16 years of experience)
Sector of activity: Transport and Logistics services

This experience was beneficial for my business which needed to go more international to find new markets. The Italian market is a first step into this process.

BioPic- bringing the garden into your house

When Renato Reggiani, an Italian aspiring entrepreneur, applied for the programme in 2013, he already knew that he was on the right track, having been selected as one of the 10 winners of the "We Share the Ideas” competition that was promoted by Corriero della Sera, Intesa Sanpaolo, Sda Bocconi and Armando Testa, and having secured a number of patents and media coverage at national level.

His business idea was simple, yet innovative-  BioPic aimed to make it possible for everyone to grow organic vegetables or flowers in their homes or gardens through a line of pre-seeded bio mats that users lay on top of a bed of soil.

So when Renato heard about Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs from IO Centro Studi Cultura Sviluppo, he knew that the programme could help him develop his business idea further by allowing him to network and to build relationships in order to find business partners abroad.
Once accepted, it did not take too long before he found Rene Gouw, his host entrepreneur, and in 2014 they spent- four months together successfully collaborating on the project at the offices of Kolibri Logistiek in Netherlands.

In addition to entrepreneurial skills that Renato gained from the exchange, his time abroad enabled him to get in touch with organisations such as Rotterdam Foundation, Startup Pitch and other organisations that help young companies in the Netherlands. The exchange was so successful that Renato and Rene are still in touch and continue to support each other.

Meanwhile, Renato and his newly-established business in Italy have continued to win prizes and recognition from IBM, BBC, Armando Testa, and the Maker Fair in Rome and New York. The start-up won the GreenChem Prize in 2015 and was selected to be among the exhibitors at Expo 2015 in Milan Palazzo Italia. BioPic is also one of the excellence start-ups selected by Lazio Regional Agro Space 2015.

In addition to that, the company has now started selling its products and has received 450 orders already.
