Recent testimonies of successful business networking - Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme
Period of exchange: 08/2013 until 08/2013
Narcisa is a 30-year-old aspiring entrepreneur who lives in Florești Romania. She is graduated in Geography of Tourism from the Babes Bolyai University in 2008 and has a PhD in English literature. She also speaks four languages (English, German, French and Russian) and has been teaching the English language at College Augustin Maior, in Cluj since 2009.
Though she enjoys her work, Narcisa feels like starting her own business in the tourism sector in order to offer touristic activities to individuals and also to disabled people in Transylvania.
As she has a clear idea of what she wants and the relevant background, she put together a substantial business plan and applied for Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs in 2013.
A stay-abroad with a successful business owner would help her get the first insights into the entrepreneurial world, put her business idea into practice and get to know the tourism market.
She chose Sweden as a country of destination and Jarkko Enqvist as host entrepreneur. Jarkko started as an entrepreneur 17 years ago, back in 1997. His business JarVisT AB offers project management in the field of tourism and is currently managing ‘Melankoliaden', a project which aims to raise awareness of the side effects of darkness on individuals' health.
Not only he is very experienced but his company is also the best place for her to gain the experience she needed. Jarkko was keen to start the collaboration with Narcisa due to her background and PhD in English literature.
Narcisa flew to Sweden in August 2013 and stayed one month at the host company. The cooperation though short was invaluable for both entrepreneurs. Narcisa got to know how a business in the field of tourism is managed and was also taught how to plan a budget and prepare tourist packages and tours for disabled people.
From his side, Jarkko got to know the Romanian market and the opportunities offered in terms of tourism activities. His is now planning to organise trips to the country.
During the stay-abroad, Narcisa visited various locations in Sweden specifically dedicated to tourists with disabilities which included fishing and birds watching platforms. Wildlife watching platforms and walking promenades and hiking, picnicking and bathing places (on river banks or close to different lakes).
She also had the opportunity to get general and specific marketing and management strategies targeted to disabled people, and she was given leadership training and advices on financial aspects of a business.
The experience in Sweden helped Narcisa to acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge the establishment of such a business requires.
