Duration of exchange: 5.99 months

Business sector of the exchange

Advertising, promotion, printing, media and related products and services / Education and training services

Laura Mateo is a newly established entrepreneur who together with her colleagues has developed a new educational app to learn the discipline of syntax. She signed up for the EYE program to learn how to turn her business idea into a real company acquiring knowledge from an already established company in Europe and to perfect her English in a professional environment. Her app is already gaining new users and moving forward (+80000 downloads) but the brand needs to be more present through a marketing strategy that makes it closer to new students, as well as being seen as a tool for educational and technological purposes. The host entrepreneur is Tom Hopkins, the founding director of One Productions, which produces screen and interactive content across all channels. Tom is a narrative film and television director, documentary and media producer for international audiences and his knowledge in marketing and advertising strategy can help Laura develop her business idea by making new audiovisual commercials for advertising.

UX/UI design has been the main focus of this exchange, training Laura in web design creation through new tools (Elementor SquareSpace). This allowed the host entrepreneur to have new and revamped websites & the new entrepreneur to gain knowledge in SEO & UX writing. This experience made Laura a more competent professional who not only knows how to design and collaborate in an artistic environment but also how to manage marketing thinking. Furthermore, digital content and posters for short films were created. Overall this exchange has given the NE new opportunities to refine not only design skills but also soft skills such as problem-solving time management and understanding functions in a company vital for any NE. Both Laura & Tom have focused on refining storytelling skills through audiovisual content creating sc ripts & learning storytelling techniques that allow the customer to be more involved. In this case, need was the main focus for creating videos: students need this app because it helps them pass exams.

This learning experience made Laura more prepared for a professional delivery of their business idea and helped Tom have a more renewed and accessible company through new websites and digital content. This is an example of how different forces can make a great company and how multiple disciplines feed back on each other. Design is a relevant part of any company, but it is equally necessary to make designs thinking about the user experience to be information-oriented and to have a message behind everything that is displayed for any product to reach its customer. The host was able to make use of the new entrepreneur's technical and soft skills to improve the aesthetics and communication of his company. On the other hand, the new entrepreneur learned more effective communication methods and thanks to the creation of content generated by this exchange, there was an increase in downloads on her application, which now reaches 91000 users.
