I have achieved much more than expected by staying with Sofronis in Cyprus. I would like to establish a web portal on international rural tourism in order to create cross selling opportunities for travellers between Ireland, Italy and Cyprus.

Giuseppe achieved a great understanding of what travel agents expect and what guests consider important. He became more aware of competition and the importance of the internet as a marketing tool. He managed to take in a lot of information and elaborate on his own unique creative approach.

Before the exchange, new entrepreneur Giuseppe Schermi had more than 15 years of experience in the financial market sector, but had also become very active within his family agricultural company. In order to develop his family business, Giuseppe undertook an exchange in Cyprus with the aim of learning how to build, to market and to manage rural premium boutique resorts, a business segment which has not been fully exploited in Sicily Sofronis, the owner of Cyprus Villages Ltd, was looking for new ideas that would allow him to improve his business in order to establish transnational partnerships among rural premium boutique resorts .

Sofronis introduced to Giuseppe his innovative pan-European web portal, allowing travellers interested in agro tourism in Cyprus and abroad to create their own low cost holiday tours and visualise their itinerary online. Tourists can keep track of their itinerary by accessing the web portal from their mobile phones. By working together, Sofronis and Giuseppe came up with several new ideas to improve Sofronis’ system such as setting up membership fidelity points and other partnership discounts on the website as well as promoting new opportunities to travel between Ireland, Cyprus and eventually Sicily at an interesting rate. Giuseppe learnt about the key distinctive features for the successful marketing of rural accommodation. In addition to this, Sofronis helped Giuseppe finalise his business plan.

Thanks to the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs exchange, Giuseppe refined his business plan drastically and started thinking about launching Sofronis’ web portal in Sicily, following the leads of Ireland and Cyprus. This way, both entrepreneurs would be able to start a business partnership. Sofronis equally benefited from the exchange. Giuseppe advised Sofronis on Italian products, which he could include in his prospective spa at Cyprus Villages. Last but not least, Giuseppe taught Sofronis´s waiters how to make a delicious Italian cappuccino!
